Life in Cape Town!

We are now living in Cape Town. Julie has a civil engineering job at HHO Africa, and WR is running our tree business, Willem Avenant Tree Specialist. We live in Woodstock, which is a neighborhood just outside the city center. It is a very diverse neighborhood, and still a bit rough, but up-and-coming. We live walking distance from the supermarket (Shoprite), bank, post office, restaurants, and bars. We really enjoy the vibe of the neighborhood, and are very much enjoying living in Cape Town. Running the business is extremely time-consuming, days, evenings, and weekends, but we try to get out at least once a week to see and do things.

House Pics

Pics showing front of house, patio, main room, kitchen, master br, and spare bedroom (office). We love our little house! Still need a more appropriate guest bed, as all that's in there now is a camping cot.

Outside our door, a view of the mountain to the left.
Looking down our street, a view of the Atlantic and the harbor.

Street Views in Woodstock

Uitkyk hike

Hike up to an old cattle outpost on Uitkyk, outside of Murraysburg. There is a little old stone hut way up in the hills that we climbed to. The group was Julie, WR, Polla, and Britta (a family friend).

Spitzkop climb

In May, Julie, WR, and Sybrand climbed Spitzkop, a distinct landmark mountain outside of Murraysburg. There is a route up the side where you can almost just walk up a ridgeline up to the top, but we chose the more direct route up the back, which included some cliff-scaling!

Waterval

In April we went on a picnic to Waterval (on Toorfontein, outside of M'bury), with Louw & Adri, and Louw's cousin and his wife. We climbed down and had a braai lunch on the rocks behind the waterfall. Certain members of the group then did some absailing. (This included Willem but not Julie)!

More Murraysburg Pics

It's been awhile since I updated the blog...
Here are some pics from our time in Murraysburg/the Karoo in April and May.
