We left Upington on Thursday morning, heading south on the home stretch of the trip! Extremely eager to be done driving and traveling, we put in another very long day (500km) to reach Victoria West. Here we were yet again hoping to stay with friends, but our typical luck in this department caught up with us, and they were away on their honeymoon. As Victoria West is only 90km from Murraysburg, we weren’t going to pay for a night of camping, but pushed on to the finish a day earlier than we were planning.
We were trying to keep our arrival date a surprise, but had limited success with this due to the M’burg folks knowing we were in SA (could no longer reach us on the Namibian cell phone number), but they were expecting us on the weekend, so we arrived a bit early. We put a bottle of Orange River sparkling wine on the Avenant’s doorstep, rang the bell, and hid around the corner of the house. Paul answered the door, read the bottle, and knew it was us! We had a happy reunion, and stayed up very late chatting and telling lots of stories.
